With electricity price concerns reoccurring in the media due to increased costs and charges, there has been a lot of confusion as to what the Federal Government are doing to relieve this issue. The Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull has recently met with Energy Retailers to try relieving this issue and strain on Australian households with the intention of keeping costs of electricity down. 

Audits have been conducted by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC), and have revealed that regardless of discounts offered, households are still paying the highest electricity rates without their knowledge of lower plans/rates. Unfortunately, customers who signed up during discount periods may not be aware that their discount period/plan has expired and as part of the Terms & Conditions have transitioned to a higher costing plan.

From meetings held with the Prime Minister, there have been agreements made for energy retailers to contact customers on expired discounts and moving them to a better saving plan for their household. Further measures are being discussed to ease the stress on Australian households following reports that families are surviving through winter without using their heating due to the increase energy costs.
