NSW State Election Results – What it means for solar

The NSW Liberals & Nationals government has promised big things for homeowners in 2019. Which is great news if you are thinking of purchasing a solar-battery system or already have a system installed.

They have pledged to provide interest free loans to eligible homeowners to combat the rising cost of energy and help climate change.

What are they offering?

The Berejiklian Government’s ‘10-year Empowering Homes Program’ will provide interest free loans of up to $9,000 per battery system and up to $14,000 per solar-battery system. The scheme is in place to make solar more accessible to everyday Australians. The program will be in place for up to ten years and benefit 300,000 homes.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for the scheme you must meet the following criteria:

  • Owner-occupier of the home
  • Combined household income of up to $180,000 per annum before tax

Savings

The NSW Liberals and National Government have estimated that a family with a $500 quarterly electricity bill could save up to $285 a year on their bills whilst repaying the no interest loan. Once the loan is fully paid the potential savings could increase to more than $2,000 a year.

Switching to solar

Over 440,000 New South Wales households and businesses have already installed solar panel systems. The introduction of the ‘10-year Empowering Homes Program’ will see more homeowners make the switch to solar and save on energy bills.

Government investment into the affordability of energy for households and businesses can make the dream of adopting solar a reality for Australian homeowners.
